Do Cats Like Milk Or Cream
Is milk bad for cats.
Do cats like milk or cream. But it is unhealthy for them to drink milk without lots of cream on a daily basis. There are two reasons for that. When cats consume cream milk or any other dairy products with lactose in they are unable to digest the lactose and it simply passes through their intestinal tract while taking water with it.
Veterinarians at the College of Veterinary Medicine for Cornell University say cats lack the lactase enzyme so digestion of the lactose sugar is impossible for them. The less cream the milk has the harder it is for the cat to digest the milk. Therefore milk for cats is like what red velvet cake is for humans.
There are some specially designed cat milk options available which are more suitable and contain reduced lactose. However if your cat tries some and doesnt react badly intestinal pain gas loose stools etc it alright for himher to have a little as a treat every so often. The cream milk and eggs in ice cream are very appealing to kitties.
It is also very calorie dense. Some adorable cats also like to eat socially with their favorite humans. A well-balanced diet be it home-made or commercial cat food can provide all the protein that cats need.
But what you dont know is that by this nice gesture of yours you might be ruining your babys health. They have the same effect on milk as dogs. If your cute kitty drinks cows milk or consumes cream it results in stomach upset and diarrhea -- not a pleasure for your pet and certainly not a pleasure for you to have to clean up.
While cats probably wont try to drink your Jack and Coke if youre enjoying a drink that includes milk or cream theres a good chance your cat might decide to give it a try. The article is not saying that cats dont drink milk its saying cats shouldnt be given milkonly as an occasional treatMost cats have an intolerance to the lactose in cows milk and it can cause digestive problems. But cats can definitely taste fats and proteins and will seek them out.
